How to be a responsible traveller
Travel has taught me how amazing our world is and how important it is to protect and preserve it.
As tourists, by following this principle of “leave nothing but footprints,” each can help preserve the environment and the cultural heritage of the places we visit.
One of the many things I like in Hawaii is how the local culture is so protective and respectful of nature. I appreciate all the awareness efforts to encourage tourists to respect the local culture, environment, and wildlife.
This is, for me, an example for everyone to follow. We all have a responsibility to protect and preserve nature everywhere we go in this world.
Here are the ways we all can help:
- Sunscreen: choose a reef-safe sunscreen or, even better, wear UV-resistant swimwear.
- Plastic bottles: choose reusable water bottles to prevent the use of plastic.
- Wildlife: do not approach or feed wildlife, as this can disrupt their natural ecosystem. Also, do not participate in wildlife tourism activities that harm animals.
- Coral reef: do not touch corals and only book responsible and environmentally conscious marine tours.
- Environment: do not remove or damage natural resources such as rocks, shells, and sand, as this can harm the ecosystem’s delicate balance.
- Support local communities: buy locally-made products, engage with local communities, and participate in cultural experiences that promote preservation and respect for cultural heritage.
